Including boyfriend to GC application

My boyfriend and I will get married next year. I'm wondering if it's too late to include him to my GC application.

I have heard that one must get married before the I-485 is approved to include boyfriend or girlfriend to the GC application. Some also say that it's better to get married before the I-485 interview, because the I-485 may get approved right after the interview.
