contacting congressperson for my I-485...

I heard they "make things work" and if I ask my congressman to push for my I-485, it might go through faster. Is this true?

Yeah I heard about it too. One of my friends priority date became current but USCIS kept delaying his interview. He contacted the congressman and he helped scheduled an interview for my friend.
