to brownkoala911:

Maybe. The US does not strictly forbid permanent residents from having permanent residence in another country. However, there are limitations on how much time you can spend outside the US as a permanent resident, so these requirements may make it difficult for you to maintain your permanent residency in another country.

I don't think being a permanent resident of another country is an issue. I know some people who have successfully applied for their green cards while also being permanent residents of countries in Europe.

What about paying taxes? Do I need to report my taxes from Australia?

I'm pretty sure it depends on the other country. For most part, the US doesn't seem to care however many PR/citizenships you have. But some other countries don't allow dual, so you should check with their embassy
