J1 holders please help: 2 yr home residency requirement

So the thing is, I'm on J1 and my wife is on J2. My document says I am NOT subject to this 2 year home residency requirement, but the funny thing is my wife's J2 document says she IS subject to the rule. How can that happen? Whom can I check with to confirm if my J1 is also under the rule?

You can ask your J-1 sponsor. They should know if your J-1 is subject to 212(e). In addition, you can request an Advisory Opinion from the Department of Stats to double check.

OK, I will do that. I didn't get any government funding from China so I think I should not be subject to this requirement. Probably a mistake but I'm not sure...
