Filing I-140 and I-485 together.

Hi filers, do you think filing both my I-140 and I-485 at the same time is a good or bad idea? I don't want to regret doing so if it's going to affect my visa (J-1) or my stay here. Thanks!

Do you plan to extend your J-1? If so then you should not file I-485 before you extend your visa.

to Martin:

If your I-140 case is strong, you can file together. If not, stay away from I-485 until your I-140 is approved.

What category is your petition? If your priority date isn't current, you won't be able to file I485 at all right now.
