Help! I have communist party membership.

I recently heard from a friend that being a communist member will affect my GC. I was a member of the Chinese Communist Party when I was a student but I have not paid the membership fees since I moved to the U.S. in 2016. Will this affect my GC?

This might be an issue at the I-485 stage. Membership in a Communist party is one of the reasons your I-485 can be rejected. So you might need to make your own statement about why you are an exception to the rule.

I think if you ended the membership more than five years ago, it shouldn't affect your GC.
